Iran, Pahlavi Empire. An Order of the Lion and the Sun, I Class Star, c.1918
(Neshaan-e shir o khorshid). Instituted in 1808. 4th Period (Post 1872). Of German manufacture, likely from the workshop of Godet, in silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star with pebbled and ribbed rays, with eight green enameled bands between the rays, the obverse with a central hand-painted enameled medallion depicting a lion and a sun, inside three pebbled rings, the reverse with a barrel hinge and tapering banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 88.03 mm (w) x 88.24 mm (h), weighing 75.8 grams, minor tarnishing and flecking of enamels is evident, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.
