(Nut al-Harb 1939-1945). Instituted in 1945. In bronze gilt, measuring 40 mm in diameter, scattered gilt wear, light contact, original ribbon, better than very fine.
Footnote: The medal was issued for participation in the Second World War. By 1939, anti-British and pan-Arab sentiment was strong among the Iraqi military and Iraq flirted with the Axis powers. Tensions grew and in April 1941, the British landed forces at Basra and advanced inland. In January 1943, Iraq finally declared war on the Axis powers, though its forces took little part in any combat. In March 1945, Iraq was a founding member of the Arab League, its war-time experiences having further radicalized Iraqi opinion. The medal was manufactured by Huguenin Frères of Le Locle, Switzerland.
