Syria. An Order of Civil Merit, 4th Class
Arabic: وسام الاستحقاق المدني , French: Ordre du Mérite civil. Instituted in 1953. In silver with green and white enamels, maker marked "ARTHUS BERTRAND" and marked "DÉPOSÉ" (Deposit) on the reverse, indistinguishable hallmark on the ring, measuring 39.3 mm (w) x 55 mm (h) inclusive of its ball suspension, intact enamels, original ribbon, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Civil Merit was established on June 25, 1953. The decoration is awarded for service to the state or to the Arab cause. It is awarded in five classes: Excellent Class; First Class; Second Class; Third Class; and Fourth Class.
