Monaco, Principality. An Order of St. Charles in Gold, I Class Knight, c.1930

(Ordre de Saint-Charles). Instituted on 15 March 1858. Of French manufacture, in Gold with a white Maltese cross with red enamel framing and ball finials, green enamelled laurels, obverse centre applique with the royal cypher of Charles in Gold, reverse centre with national design, measuring 40 mm (w) x 63 mm (h - inclusive of Gold swivel crown suspension and horizontally pierced ball adorned by cross), weighing 16.00 grams with ribbon on, crown misaligned with damage to reverse, minor enamel loss, better than fine.

Footnote: The Order of Saint-Charles is a dynastic order of knighthood established by Prince Charles III in Monaco on 15 March 1858, awarded for meritorious service to the Prince or State of Monaco. In particular cases, it may be granted to foreigners.

.This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
