Montenegro, Kingdom. An Order of Danilo, Commander, c. 1914
(Орден Књаза Данила I/Orden Knjaza Danila I). Instituted in 1853. Type IV. (1861 -1918 Issue). Likely of Russian manufacture, a large silver gilt decoration presenting a cross with white, red and blue enamelled arms, the obverse medallion features a Gold centerpiece with a crown and DI cypher below on a red enamelled field, encircled by a red enamelled ring with the inscription ЗА НЕЗАВИСИМОСТЪ ЦРНЕ ГОРЕ (For the Independence of Montenegro), again surrounded by a white enamel ring, the reverse medallion presents the year 1852-3 in Gold on a red enamelled field enclosed by a Gold ring, again encircled by a red enamelled ring with the inscription КНЯЗЪ ЦРНОГОРСКІИ (Prince of Montenegro), with a white enamel ring, the badge is surmounted by a large crown with moveable pendilia, measures 56.5mm (w) x 90.7mm (h - inclusive of surmounting crown and cross atop ball suspension), weighs 45.5 grams, suspended from an elongated loop on a section of neck ribbon, enamels intact, obverse medallion slightly bent, light gilt wear to crown, a very rare variation in very fine condition.
