In silver, consisting of a blue enameled cross with red and white boarders, obverse centre presenting the crowned royal cipher of Danilo I with the Cyrillic surround Danilo I, Prince of Montenegro, with a white enameled boarder and die stamped silver rays, centre reverse with institution date of “1852/1853”, circumscribed by For independence of Montenegro in Cryllic script, with a silver gilt Montenegrin Crown with elongated ribbon, maker marked on both ring and integral ring VM for Vinc Mayer, hallmarked on integral ring Diana Head with 2 & A thereby denoting manufacture in 900 silver in Vienna between 1872-1922, also hallmarked on ring with Hound Head with 2 & 4 thereby denoting 900 silver and manufacture in Vienna, measuring 38 mm (w) x 59 mm (h - inclusive of crown with horizontally pierced ball suspension adorned by cross), with enamel loss, on original ribbon, fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
