A Boer War & WWI Memorial Group to the Canadian Field Artillery - Queen's South Africa Medal, 4 Clasps - CAPE COLONY, TRANSVAAL, SOUTH AFRICA 1901, SOUTH AFRICA 1902 (37033 TPR: G. BARCLAY. SCOTTISH HORSE); British War Medal (317869 GNR. G. BARCLAY. C.F.A.); and Victory Medal (317869 GNR. G. BARCLAY. C.F.A.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, dark patinas on the silver medals, original ribbons, light contact, better than very fine. Accompanied by his Memorial Plaque (GEORGE BARCLAY), along with a copy of his Attestation Paper.   Footnote: George Barclay was born on June 4, 1882 in Inverness, Scotland. Barclay served for thirteen months as a Trooper (37033) with the Scottish Horse, later immigrating to Canada. He signed his CEF Attestation Paper as a Gunner (317869) with the 49th Overseas Battery, Canadian Field Artillery, on January 27, 1916, in St. Catharines, Ontario, at the age of 35, naming his next-of-kin as Mrs. A. Barclay of Inverness, stating that he had three months' previous service with the Scottish Horse, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Labourer. While in the French theatre, Barclay was with the 5th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery when he died of his wounds on June 5, 1917, at the age of 35, and is buried in La Targette British Cemetery, Neuville-St. Vaast, Pas-de-Calais, France, Grave Reference: I. C. 24. He is commemorated on page 196 of the First World War Book of Remembrance.
