A WWI M.M. Group to a Native Canadian - Military Medal (234520 Pte H. HAPA. 52/MAN: R.); British War Medal (234520 PTE. H. NAPA. 52-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (234520 PTE. H. NAPA. 52-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed, with his name spelled incorrectly on the BWM and VM ("Napa" versus the correct "Hapa"). Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, bruising on the VM, light contact, better than very fine. Accompanied by a Wound Stripe (two-piece construction, bronze bar marked "(AB) PROV. PAT 7342-17 (No 4)", brass base marked "THE WOUNDED STRIPE PROV No 4 PAT", 12.7 mm x 59.6 mm); 52nd Infantry Battalion Cap Badge (blackened brass, unmarked, 35.5 mm x 38 mm); 52nd Infantry Battalion Collar Tab Pair (blackened brass, unmarked, 28 mm x 30.2 mm each); two 52nd Infantry Shoulder Titles (bronze, maker marked "P.W. ELLIS CO LTD. 1915", 14 mm x 25.3 mm); two Infantry Shoulder Titles (bronze, one maker marked "W. SCULLY MONTREAL", the other maker marked "CARON BROS. MONTREAL 1915", 14 mm x 29 mm each); two CANADA Shoulder Titles (bronze, maker marked "RODEN BROS 1916" on their reverses, 14.7 mm x 51 mm); five Large General Service Buttons (brass, four maker marked "J.R. GAUNT MONTREAL", one maker marked "UNITED-CARR CANADA", 25 mm each); six Small General Buttons (brass, two maker marked "J.R. GAUNT MONTREAL", three maker marked "UNITED-CARR CANADA", one unmarked, 18.5 mm each); CEF For Service at the Front (bronze gilt and enamels, numbered "422749" on the reverse, 22.2 mm, screwback); and British Empire Service League, Canadian Legion Membership Pin (bronze and enamels, numbered "82385" on the reverse, 18.5 mm x 25.3 mm). Also better than very fine.Footnote: Herbert Hapa was born in May 1891 in Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba. He was a member of the Sioux Valley Band, residing at the Owoju Reserve in Griswold, Manitoba, when he signed his Attestation Paper on March 28, 1916 in Brandon, Manitoba, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Marpiyamaniwin Hapa of the Owoju Reserve in Griswold, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Farmer. He was later transferred to the 52nd Infantry Battalion "New Ontario Battalion", where he earned his Military Medal, one of 191 recipients of the medal with this Battalion. Hapa was cited for his Military Medal in the London Gazette 31173, page 52, on February 7, 1919.
