A Second War Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment Officer's Visor Cap by J. Collett of London 1945: This dress cap is fabricated from a greenish-khaki twill, with two smooth-finished reddish-brown leather straps and two fixed sliders creating the chin strap, resting upon the visor, slotted at the ends, secured on both sides by original bronze buttons, each button illustrating the Royal coat-of-arms. Immediately above the buttons on both sides are two reinforced ventilation holes with olive green painted metal eyelets. The front has a 40.7 mm x 45.3 mm bronze gilt cap badge of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment affixed to the cap via two lugs and pin. Flat visor with stiffener, both sides of the visor covered with the same greenish-khaki twill as the exterior of the cap. Inside, the sidewalls of the cap with a wide reinforcement band in black and lined in a light brown rayon, wide light brown leather sweatband, stamped with the "J. COLLETT. Ltd" maker mark and dated "1945" on the left side, the two ends of the sweatband stitched together at the rear and finished with a chocolate brown bow-tied ribbon, the underside of the sweatband stamped in black ink on the right side with a Broad Arrow production mark, incorporating a "W" to the left, a "D" to the right (War Department) and "854" below, along with being marked with a large handwritten size "7" at the left rear near the seam. The dome brandishes a yellowish-brown moisture shield, with a manufacturer's label inscribed "J. COLLETT Ltd. LONDON." sewn in place to the dome under the moisture shield. The cap measures 230 mm x 280 mm x 90 mm overall, with scattered mothing evident on the exterior, the light brown rayon lining coming away from the body of the cap, light wear and crazing present on the leather sweatband. Quality fabrics, very clean, near extremely fine. (C:152)
