Accompanied by his Commission Document (appointing Felton to the rank of First Lieutenant in the Sherbrooke Garrison Battery of Artillery, with green embossed paper seal, effective May 1, 1868, dated September 13, 1868 at Ottawa, on blue paper stock, 255 mm x 390 mm); and a contemporary copy of his Last Will and Testament (on lined blue paper with embossed legal seal, the seal illustrating a winged crown surrounded by the inscription "E. PELLEW FELTON NOTARY PUBLIC", dated July 8, 1863 at Sherbrooke, Quebec, 210 mm x 332 mm). Footnote: Edward Pellew Felton was born in London, England in 1826, the son of William Bowman Felton, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and was the nephew of Commander John Felton. Continuing in the Naval traditions of his uncle, his godfather was Admiral Sir Edward Pellew (Lord Exmouth), and well known publisher John Murray. Felton immigrated to Canada and joined Glackmeyer Notary Public in Quebec as a notary in 1847, before moving to Sherbrooke and joining the Sherbrooke Garrison Battery of Artillery (Sherbrooke Garrison Artillery). He was a Sergeant with the Sherbrooke Garrison Artillery, when his unit was called out for service during the Fenian Raids of 1866.Felton was named a First Lieutenant in the Sherbrooke Garrison Battery of Artillery, on May 1, 1868. He later became Captain with the 53rd (Sherbrooke Infantry) Battalion, the company being called out for service during the Fenian Raids of 1870. A number of years later, upon the retirement of the late Lieutenant-Colonel Ibbotson, he was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel of the 53rd (Sherbrooke Infantry) Battalion (which later became the 53rd Sherbrooke Regiment). He was regarded as having brought the unit "to a high state of efficiency", as noted in his obituary that appeared in the Sherbrooke Gazette in February 1908. He died on February 22, 1908. Felton is shown on the roll of the 20 man Sherbrooke Garrison Artillery and is listed on page 261 of the "Canada General Service Medal Roll, 1866-70" by John Thyen. He is also shown on the roll of the 67 man 53rd (Sherbrooke Infantry) Battalion and is listed on page 132 in the same book. In the rank of Sergeant, he received the medal with the 1866 clasp while with the Sherbrooke Garrison Artillery. In the rank of Captain, he received the 1870 clasp for the medal while with 53rd (Sherbrooke Infantry) Battalion. (C:14)
