British War Medal (642715 PTE. T.S. MEDHURST. 54-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (642715 PTE. T.S. MEDHURST. 54-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, edge nicks and bruising, contact marks, very fine. Accompanied by a 54th Infantry Battalion "Kootenay Battalion" Shoulder Title: blackened copper, maker marked "MADE IN B.C. / JACOBY BROS. VANCOUVER, B.C." on the reverse, 15.5 mm x 54.7 mm, intact lugs. Footnote: Thomas Simmons Medhurst was born on July 2, 1876 in New Haven, Sussex, England. He was a resident of Collingwood, Ontario when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (6424715) with the 157th Infantry Battalion "Simcoe Foresters", on January 10, 1916, in Collingwood, at the age of 39, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Elizabeth Medhurst of New Haven, stating that he had five years' previous service with the Royal Naval Reserve, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Sailor. The Battalion was raised in Simcoe County, Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Barrie, under the authority of G.O. 151, December 22, 1915. The Battalion sailed October 18, 1916 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel D.H. MacLaren with a strength of 32 officers and 967 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was broken up and absorbed into the 19th, 116th and 125th Infantry Battalions and the 8th Reserve Battalion, with Medhurst later transferred to the 54th Infantry Battalion "Kootenay Battalion". He survived the war.
