Canada General Service Medal, Seaman George Mackay, Toronto Naval Brigade - FENIAN RAID 1866 (Sm. G. Mackay, Toronto Naval. Bde.). Naming is officially impressed. Dark patina, original ribbon, nick on the clasp, better than very fine. Accompanied by a copy of the CGSM Toronto Naval Brigade Medal Roll from the National Archives of Canada and assorted research material. Footnote: Seaman George Mackay was one of forty members of the Toronto Naval Brigade awarded the CGSM with the 1866 clasp for the Fenian Raids. The medal roll indicates he served from May to August 1866 on HM Gunboats Rescue and Magnet, as an attack was expected at Windsor and the Welland Canal. He is listed on page 268 of the "Canada General Service Medal Roll, 1866-70" by John Thyen. It appears he was residing on Toronto Island when his medal was forwarded to him.
