A First War Medal Pair to the 28th Canadian Infantry - British War Medal (1018148 PTE. J. STINSON. 28-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (1018148 PTE. J. STINSON. 28-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, original ribbons, edge nicks on the BWM, contacts marks, very fine. Accompanied by a copy of his Attestation Paper. Footnote: John Stinson was born on May 17, 1890 in Brooke, Rutland, England. He was a resident of Turtleford, Saskatchewan when he signed his Attestation Paper with the 232nd Infantry Battalion "Saskatchewan Battalion", on April 13, 1916, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, naming his next-of-kin as his father, Harry Stinson of Brooke, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Farmer. The Battalion was raised in Saskatchewan with mobilization headquarters at Battleford under the authority of G.O. 69, July 15, 1916. The Battalion sailed April 18, 1917 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel R.P. Laurie with a strength of 13 officers and 286 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 15th Reserve Battalion, with Stinson later joining the 28th Infantry Battalion "North West Regiment" in the French theatre.
