A First War Medal Pair to the Royal Canadian Navy - British War Medal (W. PHILLIPS E.R.A. 4 20873 R.C.N.); and Victory Medal (W. PHILLIPS E.R.A. 4 20873 R.C.N.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, dark patina on the BWM, contact marks on the VM, better than very fine. Accompanied by his Naval Class A (Class AA) Badge (silvered white metal, maker marked "W. SCULLY" and numbered "3525" on the reverse, illustrating two fouled anchors in the centre, a ribbon banner above inscribed "CANADA" and surmounted by the Tudor Crown, a ribbon banner below the anchors inscribed "SERVICES RENDERED", 32.7 mm x 35.2 mm, horizontal pinback). Footnote: Walter Phillips was born on May 1, 1890 in Norwich, England. When he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy, he stated his trade as that of Marine Oiler and finished his war service as an Engine Room Artificer 4th Class. In regards to the Navy Class A Badge, they were forwarded to their recipients with no specific packaging and sent loose from the manufacturer.
