British War and Victory Medals (175097 A. CPL. F.A. KEMP. C.M.G.BDE.). Naming is officially impressed. Dark patina on BWM, light contact on both, very fine. Accompanied by copies of his Attestation Paper, Service Records, Medical Records and Discharge Paper. Footnote: Frederick Arthur Kemp was born on January 29, 1898 in Margate, Kent, England. He later emigrated to Canada with his parents, settling in Hamilton, Ontario. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 8th Machine Gun Battalion on March 6, 1916 in Hamilton, stating that he was not married, that he had no previous military service and that his trade was that of Clerk. He embarked Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 19, 1916, arriving in Liverpool, England aboard the S.S. Adriatic on May 29, 1916. On June 8, 1917 Kemp was made Acting Corporal at Crowboro and later, on August 17, 1917, Acting Corporal at Seaford Camp, both with pay. By December 24, he was designated to receive a Clerk's pay. He reverted to the rank of Private on November 7, 1918, in order for him to proceed overseas. He arrived in France on January 9, 1919 and joined the 3rd Battalion Canadian Machine Gun Corps in the field. Kemp returned to the Canadian Machine Gun Depot at Seaford on April 30, 1919, embarking for Canada on May 18, 1919 aboard the S.S. Aquitania. He was discharged upon demobilization on May 27, 1919 at Hamilton.
