SJT. G. DEMONTIGNY. 22-CAN.INF.); France: Medal of the Republican Society for the Encouragement of Devotion to Service (bronze gilt, hallmarked and marked "BRONZE" on the edge, 30.5 mm); and France: Commemorative Medal for the War 1914-1918 (bronze, 32.7 mm). Naming is officially impressed on the Canadian Trio. Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, original ribbons, light contact, near extremely fine.   Footnote: Gamelin Demontigny was born on November 18, 1881 in Montreal, Quebec. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 22nd Infantry Battalion "Canadiens Francais", on October 27, 1914 in Montreal, at the age of 22, naming his wife as his next-of-kin, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Clerk. The Battalion was raised in Quebec and mobilized in St. Jean, Quebec under the authority of G.O. 36, March 15, 1915. The Battalion sailed May 20, 1915 with a strength of 36 officers and 1,097 other ranks under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel F.M. Gaudet. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 5th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division.
