A First War Medal Pair and Photos to the Canadian Field Artillery - British War Medal (313885 SJT. J.G. FLORENCE. C.F.A.); and Victory Medal (313885 SJT. J.G. FLORENCE. C.F.A.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, dark patina on the BWM, green oxidation spots on the VM, light contact, very fine. Accompanied by his CEF Particulars of Service from Public Archives Canada, a black and white photograph of his wife Nellie sitting on a seashore rock, a letter from his wife (text in both English and Aboriginal syllabics), a studio photograph of a soldier in uniform (inscribed "Am leaving for overseas on 31st. Will write later Arthur" on the reverse, postcard backer) and a Canadian National Telegram (addressed to Mr and Mrs Emerson Knott, inscribed "Congratulations and Best Wishes for your happiness always love Agnes"). Footnote: James George Florence was born on June 8, 1879 in Lossiemouth, Morayshire, Scotland. He signed his Attestation Paper with the Canadian Garrison Artillery on January 1, 1916 at Esquimalt, British Columbia, at the age of 36, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Nellie Florence of Maywood, British Columbia, stating that he had five years' previous service with the Canadian Garrison Artillery, that he was married and that his trade was that of Police Officer. He sailed for England on February 26, 1916 and saw a promotion to Bombardier three months later, on June 1st. Six weeks later, he proceeded to the French theatre on July 15th and was promoted to Sergeant on December 6th. Florence was transferred to the Canadian Military Police Corps on September 30, 1917. He returned to Canada and was honourably discharged on May 27, 1919, credited with having served in Canada, Great Britain and France.
