A First War Medal Pair to the 75th Canadian Infantry CEF - British War Medal (210076 PTE. W.C. BLAKE. 75-CAN.INF.); and Victory Medal (210076 PTE. W.C. BLAKE. 75-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, dark patina on the BWM, extremely fine. Accompanied by his Silver War Badge (silver, numbered "C29720" on the reverse, 32.8 mm, horizontal pinback, with period tri-colour ribbon). Footnote: William Charles Blake was born on February 2, 1871 in Cheswick, Middlesex, England. He was a resident of Winona, Ontario when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (210076) with the 98th Infantry Battalion "Lincoln and Welland Battalion", on December 10, 1915 in Welland, Ontario, at the age of 44, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Susannah Mansel Blake of Grimsby, Ontario, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Labourer. The Battalion was raised in the Lincoln and Welland Counties of Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Welland under the authority of G.O. 151, December 22, 1915. The Battalion sailed July 16, 1916 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel H.A. Rose with a strength of 36 officers and 1,050 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion. Blake was later transferred to the 75th Infantry Battalion "Mississauga Battalion".
