A First War Medal Pair to the Canadian Machine Gun Brigade - British War Medal (669114 A.L. CPL. W.A. DILLON. C.M.G. BDE.); and Victory Medal (669114 A.L. CPL. W.A. DILLON. C.M.G. BDE.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, dark patina, on the BWM, very light contact, extremely fine. Footnote: William Alexander Dillon was born on August 16, 1887 in Carleton County, Ontario. He was a resident of Toronto, Ontario when he signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (669114) with the 166th Infantry Battalion "Queen's Own Rifles of Canada", on January 19, 1916, in Toronto, at the age of 28, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Hazel Mary Dillon on Toronto, stating that he had four years' previous service with the Queen's Own Rifles, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Barrister. The Battalion was raised and mobilized in Toronto, Ontario, under the authority of G.O. 151, December 22, 1915. The Battalion sailed October 13, 1916 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel W.G. Mitchell with a strength of 32 officers and 859 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion. He was later transferred to the Canadian Machine Gun Brigade, where he was named Acting Lance Corporal. Dillon died on February 2, 1947, at the age of 59 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Bancroft, Ontario.
