A First War Pair to the Canadian Army Service Corps - British War Medal (526968 PTE. C. ARMITAGE. C.A.S.C.); and Victory Medal (256968 PTE. C. ARMITAGE. C.A.S.C.). Naming is officially impressed but in error on the VM, as the first two numbers have been reversed. Unmounted, extremely fine. Footnote: Charles Henry Armitage was born on June 25, 1885 or 1886 in Coaticooke, Quebec. He filled out two Atttestation Papers. The first was signed on June 10, 1916 with the 171st Overseas Battalion, C.E.F at Valcartier, Quebec, stating his birth year as 1885, that he had no previous military service, that he was married to Alice DoraArmitage and that his trade was that of Traveller. The second Attestation Paper was signed on May 5, 1917 at the A.M.C. Training Depot No. 4. in Montreal, Quebec, stating his birth year as 1886, that he had eight months previous military service with the 171st Battalion, that he was married to Alicia Armitage and that his trade was that of Chauffer. He had been previously injured in battle and lost his right eye, having had it replaced with a glass one.
