A First War Trio to the Canadian Field Artillery - 1914-15 Star (42387 GNR: G. SCHOLES. CAN: FD: ART:); British War and Victory Medals (42387 GNR: G. SCHOLES. C.F.A.). Naming is officially impressed on all three. Original ribbons, mounted on suspension with swing bar pinback, dark patina on BWM, oxidation marks on both bronze medals, very fine. Accompanied by copies of his Attestation Paper, Service Records, Medical Records, Discharge Certificate and Demobilization Proceedure Form. Footnote: George Scholes was born in Manchester, England on January 31, 1882. He signed his Attestation Paper in Valcartier, Quebec on September 25, 1914, stating that he belonged to an Active Militia, that he was single and that his trade was that of Labourer. He embarked Canada, September 29, 1914, arriving in England shortly thereafter. After training in England, he embarked with the 11th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery for the French theatre on February 11, 1915. Scholes was hosptialized with a sprained knee on August 15, 1915, later rejoining his unit on August 24. A year later, Scholes was awarded a Good Conduct Badge on August 16, 1916. He was granted fourteen days leave, on December 18, 1918 and in January 1919, he had a past marriage approved in accordance with an Order in Council of Canada, rejoining his unit on January 8, 1919. He was granted an additional fourteen days leave to the United Kingdom on April 10, 1919 on being retained in England at the expiration of leave for the purpose of returning to Canada with dependents and posted to C.A.R.D. South Rippon. He embarked England on July 31, 1919, arriving in Canada on August 8. Scholes was discharged from service upon demobilization, August 12, 1919. It was noted on his demobilization proceedure form that he intended to reside in Hamiton, Ontario with his family after the war, this time stating his trade as that of Miner.
