An RCAF Memorial Cross; Night Flight Training Accident - WWII Group of Four - Defence Medal; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp; War Medal 1939-1945; and Memorial Cross GRVI (SGT. H.A. McLENNAN R-62633). Naming is officially engraved on the MC. Court-mounted for presentation, contact marks on the MC, very fine.Footnote: Hilbert Alexander McLennan was born on September 6, 1915 in Munroe's Mills, Ontario, the only child of Dan S. McLennan and Elizabeth (Lizena) Campbell of Apple Hill, Ontario. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 1, 1940 in Cornwall, Ontario. He trained at Manning Pool, Toronto, Camp Borden, Regina, Montreal and Jarvis, Ontario, where he received his "Wings" on April 13, 1941. He was later stationed at Debert, Nova Scotia, leaving from there for the United Kingdom on July 1, 1944. Flight Sergeant, Wireless Operator/Air Gunner McLennan was with No. 22 Operational Training Unit on a night flight, when his Wellington aircraft crashed at 1:05 AM on January 3, 1942 in Wellesbourne, Mountford, Warwickshire, England, dying at the age of 26. He is buried in Stratford-on-Avon Cemetery, Warwickshire. A memorial service was held for McLennan at Zion United Church in Apple Hill on January 6th.
