Second War Canadian Awards to 437 Squadron - Group One: 1939-1945 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp; and War Medal 1939-1945. Group Two: Defence Medal; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp; War Medal 1939-1945; and QEII Canadian Forces Decoration (FS E.H. SPARKS). Naming is officially engraved on the CFD. Second set assembled when in receipt of the CFD. Very crisp detail, original ribbons, light contact, both sets mounted to suspensions with swingbar pinbacks, as worn by the veteran, near extremely fine. Accompanied by Ribbon Bar (Defence Medal; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Maple Leaf clasp; War Medal 1939-1945, 10 mm x 96.5 mm), General Service Badge (sterling silver, numbered "515492" and marked "STERLING" on the reverse, 14.7 mm x 22.3 mm, screwback), Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve Badge (silver, maker marked "BREADNER CO. LTD. OTTAWA" on the reverse, 23 mm x 23.5 mm, screwback), Wearing of Medals Instruction Booklet and copies of his Non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada Attestation Paper, Service Records, Discharge Certificate and Certificate of Service. Footnote: Earl Henry Sparks (213712) signed his Non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada Attestation Paper with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, on August 15, 1940 in Hamilton, Ontario, stating that his trade was that of Elevator Operator. He completed his annual training in camp from August 26 to September 7, 1940, then struck off strength to the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 5, 1940, joining them on November 11th. He saw a number of postings while in Canada: IMD Toronto, ON (November 1940), RCAF Station Patricia Bay, BC (January 1941), Langley Prairie, BC (March 1942), then to Seattle, Washington (April 1942), returning to Canada at Victoria, BC (May 1942), Vancouver, BC (June 1942), Patricia Bay, BC (February 1943), Vancouver, BC (May 1943), Rockcliffe, ON (Ottawa, July 1943), Halifax, NS (July to August in the Trainee Pool). On September 11, 1943, Sparks was taken on strength by RCAF Overseas Headquarters from 3 PRC at London (January to April 1944) and returned to 3 PRC until December. In April 1945, it was documented that he was with 437 Squadron (Transport Command), then returned to Lachine, Quebec (January 1946). Leading Aircraftman R 75818 Sparks was Honourably Released from Active Service on February 15, 1946. He later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve, now 85029 Flight Sergeant Sparks as Auxiliary Bandsman, Group Three and was Honourable Released from Service, having served from February 1, 1949 to November 27, 1958.
