Three First War Canadian Victory Medals - Acting Regimental Sergeant Major Hugh Allan, 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles (109051 A.R.S. MJR. H. ALLAN. 5-C.M.R.); Lance Corporal William Lamb, 24th Infantry Battalion (919720 L. CPL. W. LAMB. 24-CAN.INF.); and Private Georges Mercier, 4th Infantry Battalion (23865 PTE. G. MERCIER. 4-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, surface wear evident on Allan's medal, light contact, better than very fine. Footnote: Hugh Allan was born on October 27, 1875 in Montreal, Quebec. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles (109051), on February 4, 1915 in Montreal, at the age of 39, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Mrs. Robert Allan of Montreal, stating that he had three months' previous service with the U.S. 9th Cavalry, that he was not married and failed to list any trade or occupation. It was noted in his medical examination that he had two prominent scars: a cut above his right knee and a cut on the right cheek of his posterior. William Lamb was born on August 22, 1884 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 199th Infantry Battalion "Irish Canadian Rangers" (919720), on July 6, 1916 in Montreal, at the age of 31, naming his next-of-kin as his sister, Isabella Gray of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Window Cleaner. He was later transferred to the 24th Infantry Battalion. Georges Mercier was born on September 17, 1893 in Levis, Quebec. He signed his Attestation Paper on September 26, 1914, the Battalion and location not stated, at the age of 21, naming his next-of-kin as Joseph Mercier of Levis, stating that he had five years' previous service but it doesn't indicate as to which unit (although it is likely that it was the 4th Infantry Battalion), that he was not married and that his trade was that of Plumber. All three apparently survived the war.
