British War and Victory Medals (803095 A. SJT. H.J. HAMILTON. 15-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Dark patina and bruising on BWM, original ribbons, on suspension with swing bar pinback as worn by veteran, light contact, extremely fine. Accompanied by copies of his Attestation Paper, Service Records, Medical Records, Index Cards and Discharge Papers. Footnote: Hughbert James Hamilton was born on January 27, 1897 in London, Ontario. He signed his Attestation Paper on March 28, 1916 in London, stating that he was not married, that he had no previous military service and that his trade was that of Railway Clerk. The Battalion sailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 22, 1916 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel B. Robson with a strength of 32 officers and 910 other ranks. They arrived in England aboard the S.S. Olympic on August 30. They were taken on strength by the 134th Infantry Battalion "48th Highlanders" at Witley. On May 21, 1917, Hamilton was appointed Acting Lieutenant-Corporal, then Acting Corporal on August 28. He reverted to the rank of Private on February 28, 1918, in order to proceed overseas to the French theatre. He found himself in the field, this time with the 15th Infantry Battalion "48th Highlanders". Hamilton was posted to Canadian Corps Headquarters in May 1918 and was then transferred to the Canadian Corps Survey Section in the field from August to February 1919. His posting with the CCSS was interrupted by a period of hospitalized for boils on his neck from October to November 1918. It is noted in his service records that on January 6, 1919, he forfeited one day's pay P&A regulations for being absent at 8:30 on the 5th until tattoo roll call the same day. Hamilton proceeded to England via Le Havre, France on April 7, 1919 and was taken on strength as a Class 1 Clerk, in addition to being appointed Acting Sergeant on June 7 at Witley. He was diagnosed on his returned from France and treated for a case of the scabbies, April to May 1919. Hamilton embarked Tilbury, Essex, England for Canada, on September 6, 1919, being discharged upon demobilization on August 17, 1919 at London, Ontario.
