Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, dark patina on the BWM, contact marks on the VM. Aircraftman 2nd Class Wilfred Murton, Royal Canadian Air Force (Son): Canadian Volunteer Service Medal; War Medal 1939-1945; Memorial Cross, George VI (A.C.2 W. MURTON R-219859); and Birks Bar (AC 2 W. MURTON / R.C.A.F. / DIED IN HIS COUNTRY'S SERVICE / 7 MAR 1943). Naming is officially engraved on the MC and Birks Bar, the medals are un-named. Un-mounted, original ribbons on the medals, dark patinas on the medals and the MC, original ribbon and case with the MC, CVSM with its original cardboard box of issue. Near extremely fine. Accompanied by a Letter of Condolence (originally accompanying the Memorial Cross, named to "R-219859 AC/2 W. MURTON", printed in black and red inks, 80 mm x 128 mm); a Studio Portrait Photograph of young Wilfred Murton in a Suit (black and white, matte finish, 75 mm x 100 mm, in a cardboard frame studio marked "a meyers portrait", with cover and slotted to create an easel); a First World War Era Warrant Officer 2nd Class Crown and Wreath Insignia (bronze, 39.3 mm x 58.8 mm, intact lugs and pin, brass support plates, exhibiting scattered oxidation); a Dominion Rifle Association of Canada Medal (bronze with blue enamels, maker marked "BIRKS" on the reverse, 29.8 mm); and a Hand-Made Cross (three pieces of metal riveted together, die hole at the bottom, 25.3 mm x 49.5 mm). Footnote: William Murton (Father) was born on September 8, 1886 in Kent, England. He later immigrated to Canada and was a resident of Barton Township, near Hamilton, Wentworth County, Ontario, when he signed his CEF Attestation Paper (510431) on November 24, 1915 in Hamilton, at the age of 29, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Beatrice Maud Murton of Barton Township, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Baker. He served during the First World War with the Canadian Army Service Corps in the rank of Staff Quartermaster and survived the war. Wilfred Murton (Son) was born on December 19, 1921, the son of Wilfred Murton and Beatrice Murton of West Hill, Ontario. He enlisted for Second World War service with the Royal Canadian Air Force, as an Aircraftman 2nd Class (R-219859) and died on March 7, 1943, at the age of 21. Murton is buried in Toronto (Resthaven) Memorial Garden, Toronto, Ontario, Grave Reference: Circle 1. Lot 299 and is commemorated on page 197 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance.
