A Second War Memorial Cross Group to Leading Aircraftman James E. Stanley RCAF

STANLEY R-85784" on the reverse, suspended from an RCAF sterling silver wing with horizontal pinback, accompanied by its hardshelled case of issue). Unmounted, extremely fine.Footnote: R-85784 Leading Aircraftman James Elmer Stanley was the son of John Henry Stanley and Emily Louise Stanley of Toronto, Ontario. He was killed on August 7, 1941, at the age of 20, as the result of a training accident at No. 8 Service Flying Training School, in Moncton, New Brunswick. Stanley was piloting his Anson aircraft #6375 when it collided with Anson #6379, piloted by R-83930 Leading Aircraftman Francis Douglas Geldard, age 22. Stanley's aircraft crashed 300 yards north-east of the runway at Moncton. He is buried in Toronto (Pine Hills) Cemetery, Section C, Lot 107. Geddard, the son of Francis Geldard and Hilda F. Geldard of Toronto, was also killed and is buried in Toronto (Prospect) Cemetery, Naval and Military Plot, Section 1, Grave 338.
