Instituted in 1899. 1 Clasp - FENIAN RAID 1866 (Pte. J.H. McGinnis, 7th. B'n. L.L.I.). In silver, engraver marked "T.B." on the obverse, measuring 36.3 mm in diameter. Naming is officially impressed, with the "L.L.I." having been independently engraved and added later. Very dark patina, scuff marks evident over the "L.L.I." regimental designation, very light contact overall, original ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Canada General Service Medal was instituted in January 1899 and was awarded to members of Imperial forces and Canadian Militia who fought against Fenian raiders who came north during the aftermath of the American Civil War. Private James H. McGinnis is shown on the roll of the 176 man 7th (The London Light Infantry) Battalion and is listed on page 73 of the "Canada General Service Medal Roll, 1866-70" by John Thyen, entitled to the Fenian Raid 1866 clasp.
