Footnote: In August of 1812, Pte Bright served in the Expedition to Detroit in the 3rd Regiment, York Militia, specifically in Captain Duncan Cameron’s Company (1st Flank Company). He was present at the Capture of Detroit under Major General Sir Isaac Brock. The 3rd York Militia, commanded by Col. Lt. William Chewett was in York on April 27, 1813 when the Americans stormed in and occupied the town. One-third of British regulars were either captured or killed. For his involvement, Bright received his certificate of service in 1816 and was entitled to a militia land claim of 100 acres. Following his service, Pte stayed in York and worked as a butcher. It is believed that Pte Bright was living in St. Andrews, Toronto in 1842, employed as a mariner.
