A Canada Service & Colonial Auxiliary Pair to the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards
Canada General Service Medal 1866-70, one clasp Fenian Raid 1870, (Gr. J.J. McGovern, Ottawa G.A.). Naming is impressed; Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal, (SERGEANT. MAJOR J.J. McGOVERN, P.L.D.G.). Naming is impressed, extremely fine. Footnote: John James McGovern served at Cornwall during the Fenian Raids of 1870, after which he became a Private in the Governor General’s Foot Guard. In October 1877 he was part of the Guard of Honour for his Excellency’s Return from the North West Territories. He became a member of the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards serving as Paymaster Sergeant. In February 1889 he was on Escort Duty at the opening of Parliament. He received his Long Service Medal by G.O. 145 in 1903.
