Canada; Canada General Service Medal 1866-1870, 2 Clasps - FENIAN RAID 1866, FENIAN RAID 1870 (Ens. J. McFee Hemmingford I. Co.); and Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration, Victoria (MAJOR J. McFEE. 51st. REGIMENT.). Naming is officially impressed on both, the CAFOD, maker marked "SG" (Sebastian Garrard), hallmarked with the British lion, marked with a leopard's head (made in London) and date marked "f" (1901) on the reverse, in its hardshelled case of issue, maker marked R. & S. GARRARD & Co LONDON" on the inside lid, recessed medal bed, wear evident on the exterior. Un-mounted, original ribbons, dark patina on the obverse and edge of the CGSM, near extremely fine. Accompanied by a Dominion of Canada Rifle Association Silver Medal (silver, un-named as issued to McFee, 44.2 mm, in its hardshelled case of issue, maker marked "P.W. ELLIS & Co TORONTO" on the lid, recessed medal bed, light scuffing on the exterior.
Footnote: John McFee is shown on the 33 man roll of the Hemmingford Infantry Company and on the 160 man roll of the 51st Battalion Hemmingford Infantry Company, listed on pages 194 and 129 of the "Canada General Service Medal Roll, 1866-70" by John Thyen, entitled to the Fenian Raid 1866 and 1870 clasps, respectively. In the rank of Ensign with the Hemmingford Infantry Company, he was posted to Hemmingford, Quebec from June 1 to 21, 1866. In the rank of Corporal with the 51st Battalion Hemmingford Rangers, he was posted to Hemmingford from May 24 to June 7, 1870. In the rank of Major, McFee received his Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration by M.O. 100 in 1902.
