Jarvis; Governor General's Foot Guards - Imperial Service Order, Edward VII (Awarded Only 97 times to Canadians); Canada General Service Medal, 1 Clasp - FENIAN RAID 1870 (Bugler. A.L.F. Jarvis Ottawa. Bde. G.A.); Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration, Edward VII (Lt COL A.L. JARVISG.G.F.G.), maker marked "SG" (Sebastian Garrard), hallmarked with the British lion, a leopard's head and date marked "k" (1905) on the reverse; and Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal, Edward VII (LIEUT. COLONEL A.L.JARVIS, THE GOVERNOR GENERAL'S FOOT GUARDS.). Naming is officially impressed on the latter three awards, the ISO is un-named. Court-mounted, two screwposts with nuts on the reverse, contact marks, very fine. Accompanied by printouts confirming his awarding of the CGSM, CAFLSM and the ISO, along with assorted research papers. Footnote: Arthur Leonard Jarvis was born on June 17, 1852 in Toronto, Ontario. He entered service in 1868, serving as a Bugler with the Ottawa Garrison Artillery and is documented as having received the CGSM with Fenian Raid 1870 clasp. He is listed on page 226 of the "Canada General Service Medal Roll, 1866-70" by John Thyen. He became the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture in 1896, and became an Assistant Deputy Minister in 1908. His grandfather was an officer with General Sir Isaac Brock at the Battle of Queenston Heights. He was awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal by General Order 9 in 1902 and awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration by General Order 157 in 1908. He was married to Frances Geraldine Fitzgerald Jarvis. Their son, Leonard Fitzgerald Jarvis, was born on April 16, 1910 and later married Dorothy Elenita Wilson Jarvis. He was educated at Ashbury College and was a graduate of Royal Military College in Kingston. L.F. Jarvis was employed with the Department of Munitions and Supply at the time of his enlistment as a commissioned officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941, and proceeded directly overseas, for duties in flying control. C/8309 Flight Lieutenant (Air Gunner) Leonard Fitzgerald Jarvis, Royal Canadian Air Force was killed as the result of a flying accident, on March 14, 1945. He is buried in Lajes War Cemetery in the Azores, Grave Reference: Row C, Grave 4 and is commemorated on page 528 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance.
