(681247 SJT. A.J. STEVENS. 14-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Original ribbon, dark patina, light contact, near extremely fine. Footnote: Alcide James Stevens was born on July 29, 1880 in London, England. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 170th Infantry Battalion "Mississauga Horse", on February 21, 1916 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 35, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Lena Stevens of Edmonds, British Columbia, stating that he had five years' previous military service with the 23rd Regiment, Royal Engineers, and had been a Sergeant for two years with the 11th R.Y., that he was not married and that his trade was that of Manager. He was transferred shortly thereafter to the 169th Infantry Battalion "109th Regiment". The 169th Infantry Battalion was raised and mobilized in Toronto, Ontario under the authority of G.O. 69, July 15, 1916. The Battalion sailed October 26, 1916 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel J.G. Wright with a strength of 32 officers and 887 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 5th Reserve Battalion. Stevens was later transferred to the 14th Infantry Battalion "Royal Montreal Regiment".
