In pickled copper, unmarked but known to have been manufactured by Hemsley, measuring 45.7 mm (w) x 47.5 mm (h), both lugs and pin intact, extremely fine.
Footnote: The 224th Infantry Battalion was raised in Eastern Ontario on July 15, 1916, under the authority of G.O. 69, with its mobilization headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. The battalion sailed for England on May 19, 1917 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel A. McDougall, with a strength of 47 officers and 1,526 other ranks. In England, the battalion was absorbed into the Canadian Forestry Corps. It was disbanded on September 15, 1920.
