In sterling silver with red enamels, maker marked "JRG&S" (J.R. Gaunt & Son), marked with an anchor (made in Birmingham), the British lion and date marked "s" (1917) on the reverse, measuring 40 mm (w) x 55 mm (h), both lugs intact, chipping evident in the red enamels on the insignia, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The 12th Battalion Canadian Railway Troops was formed in the spring of 1918 by the conversion and re-designation of the 3rd Labour Battalion. It was disbanded on November 1, 1920.
