In silver, voided, unmarked, the badge having been removed from its original copper badge base, measuring 28.5 mm (w) x 41.7 mm (h), both lugs having been field added, the "5" of "85" having separated from the frame and shifted to the left, contact marks, very fine.
Footnote: The Battalion was raised in Nova Scotia with mobilization headquarters at Halifax under the authority of G.O. 103A, August 15, 1915. The Battalion sailed October 12, 1916 with a strength of 34 officers and 1,001 other ranks under the command of Lieutenant E.C. Phinney. The Battalion served in France and Belgium when it replaced the 73rd in the 12th Infantry Brigade, 4th Canadian Brigade. It was disbanded on September 15, 1920.
