What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Buyer's Premium

All bids are subject to a Buyer's Premium which is in addition to the placed successful bid. The following rate of Buyer's Premium will be added to the Hammer Price of each Lot that you purchase:

Canada, CEF. A Royal Flying Corps Flying Helmet, Goggles and Gauntlets

Flying helmet exterior in dark brown leather, composed of six triangular-shaped panels forming the dome, with two facing horizontal panels below, each with a round hole cut out for the ears and designed with an ear flap, each of the ear holes with reinforced stitching in dark brown threading, each of the ear flaps with a snap closure on the underside, the snap closure caps with a dark brown painted cover, each of the insides of the caps maker marked "CARR F. CO. CANADA" (Carr Fastener Company of Canada). The left side panel is constructed with a chin strap that has a brown painted snap closure cap, that is designed to connect to one of the snap closure receivers on the right side panel. The interior is lined in a greenish-brown cotton in the dome, with a band of sheepskin lining the horizontal panels below, the chin strap lined in a strip of wool in a tartan pattern.

The helmet measures 250 mm (w) x 260 mm (h), not including the chin strap, exhibiting scattered mould spots on the entire left side, with paint chipping on the three snap closure caps, the leather's remain relatively supple. The helmet is accompanied by a pair of goggles, constructed of a main chocolate-coloured leather facepiece that is sewn onto a pair of slightly yellow-tinted broad teardrop-shaped goggles within a painted grey metal frame. The two lenses are separated via a hinge, allowing for some adjustment to the face. The obverse of the leather is maker marked "GOOGLE MASK FLYING / MARK II / THE TRIPLEX GOOGLE MASK & LENS CO. LTD." in gold-coloured text beside the left eye position, with part of the marking cut off on the right end, as a piece of the leather flap beside the lens is missing. The reverse of the goggles are lined on the interior side with a chamois leather. The goggles are cushioned around the lenses using brown felt to allow for a more comfortable fit. Attached to both sides of these flying goggles is a black 19 mm wide elastic band with a length adjustment slider. The googles measure 165 mm (w) x 57 mm (h), not including the leather portions. The chocolate brown leather on the exterior exhibits speckles of gray paint, along with scratches on both lenses.

Also included are a pair of Gauntlets in brown leather, in a "mitt style", with only the thumb appearing as an individual digit, the seams sewn throughout in a light brown thread and remain intact. There is a 12 mm wide leather strap sewn in place, starting at the inside of the wrist, with a length adjustment buckle, plus a receiving patch sewn in place just under the thumb on the outside of the wrist, the patch on the left gauntlet intact, the one on the right gauntlet exhibiting wear. In addition, there is a triangular patch sewn in place at the end of the vented area on the inside spread of the gauntlet near the opening. Each of the gauntlets measure 110 mm wide at the rounded tip and 170 wide at the open end x 320 mm in length, both of which exhibit mould spots on the exterior, especially the inside spread of the left gauntlet at the tip which is covered in mold, the leathers having hardened in places slightly and have experienced some crazing. The mould likely exists due to poor storage of the items over the years. In as-found condition.
