Canada, CEF. An Overseas Military Forces of Canada in the British Isles Championship Medal, to 5th Division Witley Camp Rugby Team 1917
In silver gilt, obverse illustrating a large maple leaf bearing the inscription "CHAMPIONSHIP", surrounded by the inscription "OVERSEAS MILITARY FORCES OF CANADA BRIT. ISLES", reverse engraved "WON BY 5th DIVISION WITLEY CAMP RUGBY TEAM 1917", marked with an anchor (made in Birmingham), the British lion, date marked "S" (1917) and maker marked with the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company Limited insignia, measuring 33 mm (w) x 37.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, original ribbon suspended from a hanger inscribed "CANADIAN RUGBY" with pinback, very light contact, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, black pebbled exterior, inside lid in white satin, padded and maker marked "GOLDSMITHS & SILVERSMITHS COMPANY Ltd. / 112, REGENT St. LONDON.", base with a recessed medal bed in violet felt, measuring 58.5 mm (w) x 107.5 mm (h) x 19 mm (h), exhibiting edge wear on the exterior, case very fine.
