Hardcover, salmon-coloured cloth cover, entitled "The Official Story of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Volume III", by Sir Major Charles G.D. Roberts, with a Preface by Lord Beaverbrook, the spine with the text in gold-coloured ink, the front cover embossed with a large Canada General Service badge, with the publishers mark "HODDER & STOUGHTON / LONDON & TORONTO" immediately below the badge and framed by rules, published by Hoffer and Stoughton of London, Toronto and New York in 1918, printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay & Sons, Limited of London and Bungay, Suffolk. It is stamped in blue ink "Unique Bookstore" on the endpaper on the inside front cover, along with a "$35." price point in black ink. Also, it is inscribed with the personalized inscription in black ink "To Freddy / from Auntie Emily & Uncle Fred / Xmas 1921" on the frontispiece. It begins with a Preface by the Lord Beaverbrook, dated at Cherkley in 1918, followed by a Table of Contents and is divided into ten chapters: I - The Fourth Division; II - Holding the Line; III - On the Somme; IV - The Sugar Factory and Courcelette; V - Courcelette (continued); VI - Holding the New Ground; VII - Mouquet Farm; VIII - Regina; IX - Regina (continued); X - Desire Trench. It concludes with an Appendix, with a fold-out map entitled "Regina Trench - Showing Operations by Progressive Stages" placed in the inside back cover. The book contains 160 pages of detailed and descriptive text, along with a line drawn map entitled "Mouquet Farm Progressive Stages Sept 3rd-14th-16th" on page 79, printed in black ink, on a thick newsprint paper stock, the fold-out map on the inside back cover printed in black ink on a white paper stock, measuring 130 mm (w) x 190 mm (h) x 14 mm (d). It exhibits extensive wear and soiling on the cover, scattered spotting present on a few pages inside, however, most of the pages along with the two maps remain unaffected. Good.
