Canada, Commonwealth. A Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Officer's Side Cap
This cap is fabricated from a grayish-blue wool with fold down flaps on either side, the flaps held up via black metal hooks that are sewn in place to the side walls of the cap, the black threading securing the hook on the left side having come away. There are two rising peaks forming a valley between the two panels, the front with two 14 mm in diameter brass buttons, each of the buttons bearing the RCAF crown and eagle insignia and holding the two ends of the flaps together. The left side exhibits a two-piece crown and eagle officer's insignia in bronze gilt, the two insignia secured in place and incorporating a triangular support plate under the interior lining. The inside is lined in a black rayon, with a 17 mm wide fur-like fabric sweatband, with the initial "S" in black ink followed by a couple other faded letters visible on the right side, and appears to be without maker marks. The cap measures 290 mm (w) x 110 mm (h), exhibiting soiling overall but is free of mothing. Fine.
