MOMBOURQUETTE). Naming is engraved on the CFD, the remaining seven awards are un-named as issued. Court-mounted with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, all but the CPSM are plated, contact marks on the obverse of the three Second War medals, flaking evident in the plating on the edge of the DM, the five Second War awards with replacement ribbons, the other four awards with original ribbons, very fine. Footnote: Joseph Simon Mombourquette was born on September 26, 1921 in Lower L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He enlisted with the Canadian Army at No. 6 District Depot in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on November 10, 1942, at the age of 21. Four weeks later, he was transferred to No. 61 Training Centre on December 4th, where he was to complete his basic training. He was transferred to the Canadian Army Training Centre at Petawawa on February 9, 1943, where he qualified as a Driver (Wheeled Vehicles) III Class on April 7, 1943. Mombourquette was posted as a Gunner (F-32614) to the 21st Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery on May 29, 1943. Three months later, he embarked Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 26, 1943, arriving in the United Kingdom on September 1st, posted to No. 1 Canadian Army Reinforcement Unit (CARU) on October 3rd, then transferred to No. 1 Canadian Signals Reinforcement Unit (CSRU) on October 8th, where he would remain until November 16th. Gunner Mombourquette was with the Royal Canadian Artillery when he disembarked for the North Western European theatre on October 1, 1944, arriving in France on the 2nd. Three weeks later, he was posted to No. 5 Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery on October 20th. While in France, he was awarded his first Good Conduct Badge on November 10. 1944. After ten months with No. 5 Field Regiment, CFA, he was transferred to No. 7 Canadian Medium Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery on August 28, 1945. One year to the day after he left England, he embarked North West Europe on October 1, 1945, arriving in the United Kingdom on the 2nd, where he was subsequently attached to No. 5 Canadian Repatriation Depot. Seven weeks later, he was struck off strength to the Canadian Army on November 17, 1945 and soon returned to Canada. F-32614 Gunner Joseph Simon Mombourquette was discharged upon demobilization at No. 6 District Depot in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on January 14, 1946, credited with having served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. For his Second World War service, he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945.
