Canada. Oxford's Heroes - Lost But Not Forgotten
Hardcover, gray cloth cover, with colour images pasted in place on the front and back covers, the text on the spine in gold-coloured ink, entitled "Oxford's Heroes - Lost But Not Forgotten - A Tribute To The Men And Women Of Oxford County Who Gave Their Lives In Service Of Their Country", by Wiilam "Bill" Powell, published in Woodstock, Ontario in 2006/2009, the printer unknown. The book begins with a poem by the author: "Beneath some foreign soil they lay, / Beneath some ocean cold and deep, / Forward they went to join the fray, / Now forever their memory we keep, / This is to stand erect, / For one and all to pause a moment; / Just so very briefly to reflect, / Their memory their honour to lament, / Each one did go to play their part, / Each one smiling without a frown, / Everyone, pride within their heart / This fine display of "Oxford's Own"! " This is followed by a Dedication ("This book is dedicated to the memory of the men and women of Oxford County who served in the Militia and the Armed Forces. It is a loving tribute to all who made the supreme sacrifice that we might live as free people."), a section under the heading "Oxfords' Own" (an overview documenting Oxford's involvement during the War of 1812, the Rebellion of 1837-1838, the Fenian Raids of 1866 and 1870, the Northwest Rebellion of 1885, along with both the First World War and the Second World War), a notation entitled "With Thanks", a List of Definitions, and a Table of Contents. The bulk of the book, page 6 through page 123, a total of 118 pages, is an alphabetical listing of the men and women of Oxford County who served in conflicts since 1798, each listing accompanied by a brief biography and a photograph of the person (if available), or a picture of a cap badge that would have been worn by that person. It concludes with a page entitled "About the Author", documenting the life of William "Bill" Powell. The book contains 124 pages, the text and multiple photographs printed in black ink, on a satin-finished white paper stock, measuring 285 mm (w) x 225 mm (h) x 16.5 mm (d). Near extremely fine.
