This is a very well-preserved edition of “The Canadian Gunsmiths: 1608 to 1900”, by S. James Gooding. It is constructed of a heavy card stock binding and retains its original paper stock dust jacket, the obverse exterior of which bears facsimile images of various Canadian gunsmith advertisements, overlaid by author and title, while the reverse features an advertisement for another work by Gooding. The interior content consists of 308 white paper stock pages with extensive biographical and historical information on Canadian gun manufacturers from earliest colonial times to the mid-20th century, supplemented by 127 plates featuring black-and-white photographs, illustrations, and diagrams. Notably, the book features and autograph and dedication by Gooding on its interior title page. It was published in 1962 by Museum Restoration Service of West Hill, Ontario. The book measures 226 mm (w) x 288 mm (h). Age-appropriate material fatigue is evident to the dust jacket, but the book is in an otherwise better than very fine condition.
