A First War 4th Canadian Division Headquarters 11th Infantry Brigade Colonel's Helmet
British-made, steel, non-magnetic, in dark brownish-green with a smooth finish, a red bar representative of the Headquarters 11th Infantry Brigade above a green rectangle representative of the 4th Canadian Division painted on the front, with a Colonel's insignia in bronze affixed illustrating a left-facing lion standing upon the royal crown. The protective edge of the helmet in a magnetic steel. Inside, steel-framed cradle supporting a blackened canvas liner with underlying burlap support and leather backer, mesh support with drawstring, stamped "HS 182" ("HS" indicating the manufacturer, Hadfield Limited of Sheffield (1916-1919); and "182" the steel batch number) on the underside of thehelmet at the front, and stamped in red ink on the underside of the blackened liner with the manufacturer's stamp. The leather chinstrap along with its hardware remains intact. Helmet measures 297 mm x 315 mm x 120 mm, exhibiting one large dent at the top, bubbling where the brim meets the dome, along with contact marks on the exterior, light crazing evident on the chinstrap, as worn.
