A First War Cameron Highlanders of Canada Beret: Brown wool upper, a 51.7 mm x 57 mm browning copper Cameron Highlanders of Canada 43rd Battalion CEF Winnipeg Glengarry Badge on the left side, held in place on the underside by intact lugs and pin, the badge overlaying a modern Cameron tartan swatch, topped by a matching brown wool toorie, vented at the back with four eyelets, two on either side, with a brown drawstring fed through the two outer eyelets and tied in a knot, inside liner fabricated from brown cotton, stamped in black ink "192969" in the dome, measuring 280 mm x 290 mm, arched hole on top exposing the underlying burlap support, lightly soiled on the inside from active use, the badge exhibiting residue in the recessed areas from cleaning, near extremely fine. Footnote: The Battalion was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba which was also the mobilization headquarters under the authority of G.O. 86, July 1, 1915. The Battalion left Canada on June 1, 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel R.M. Thomson with a strength of 40 officers and 998 other ranks. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 9th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division. It was disbanded on September 15, 1920. (C:4)
