A Great War Veteran's Group to the Western Canadian Cavalry-  Includes: his Veteran's Overseas 1914 Basque Beret (red wool, maker label "Fleur de Lys / Waterproofed Basque Beret" on the dome inside, red wool chevron sewn on navy blue rectangular field, sewn in place on the left side, 255 mm x 275 mm, scattered mothing); his Her Majesty's Army & Navy Veterans Society of Hamilton Basque Beret (blue wool, maker mark "Fleur de Lys / Genuine Basque Beret / COROTHEA KNITTING MILLS LTD." printed in yellow on the dome inside, 35 mm x 57 mm bronze and enamelled Her Majesty's Army & Navy Veterans Society of Hamilton Badge on the left side, held in place via dual lugs and pin, white elasticized sweatband, 270 mm x 275 mm); a 5th Battalion (Western Cavalry) Patch (white screen-printed insignia on pressed red felt, 52 mm x 61 mm, exhibiting wear on the reverse); his Veteran's Overseas 1914 Armband (red wool chevron sewn upon an olive green-khaki cotton base, reinforced stitching along all four edges, 100 mm x 333 mm, with two safety pins); his "1914 TORONTO" Armband (navy blue and red brushed felt rectangular insignia glued to a red wool base, dual joined elasticized straps on the reverse, 100 mm x 174 mm); two Group Photographs (sepia-toned, one entitled "OFFICERS. 5th CANADIAN BATTALION.", 168 mm x 229 mm on a 210 mm x 270 mm board, the other entitled "SERGEANTS. 5th CANADIAN BATTALION.", 168 mm x 229 mm on a 205 mm x 272 mm board); his Fifth Battalion Association (Western Cavalry) Toronto Membership Card (named to "J. Price" and dated "1938", 59 mm x 98 mm, tattered, with a piece out of the upper right corner); his Originals' Club Inc., Branch No. 1 Toronto Membership Card (named to "H.J. Price", dated September 1948 and numbered "208", 54 mm x 92 mm); his Great War Veterans' Association of Canada, United Kingdom Branch Member's Card (blue hardcover, named in pencil to "12947 CQMS H.J. Price, 5th Bn.", 49 mm x 81 mm); his Journeymen Stone Cutters Association of North America Member's Due Book (hardcover, named to "JAMES PRICE" and initiated at Toronto, 80 mm x 119 mm, soiled). A terrific Great War officer's group, near extremely fine.   Footnote: Hendry James Price was born on October 14, 1898 in Pitney, Surrey, England. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 5th Infantry Battalion "Western Canadian Cavalry" (12947), on September 23, 1914 at Valcartier Camp, at the apparent age of 16 years old, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Edith, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was married and that his trade was that of Freight Clerk. It is worthy to note that during his medical examination, he is listed as 24 years, 10 months of age on the reverse of the Attestation Paper, which conflicts with his birth date, as stated on the front. The Battalion was raised in Western Canada with mobilization headquarters at Valcartier Camp, Quebec under the authority of P.C.O. 2067, August 6, 1914. The Battalion sailed October 3, 1914, with a strength of 45 officers and 1,095 other ranks under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel G.S.Tuxford. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Division. Post-war, he was member of the Great War Veterans' Association of Canada, the Fifth Battalion Association (Western Cavalry) in Toronto, the Originals' Club Inc., Branch No. 1 in Toronto,  Her Majesty's Army & Navy Veterans Society of Hamilton and the Journeymen Stone Cutters Association of North America.
