Great Britain; This manual is entitled "CAVALRY TRAINING (PROVISIONAL) 1904", was "Printed for His Majesty's Stationery Office by Harrison and Sons, St. Martin's Lane" in 1904 and was available for purchase at the time for a cost of "One Shilling". The front cover has the British coat-of-arms, with the inscription "CAVALRY TRAINING (PROVISIONAL) 1904" below. It has been personalized by the owner: "PEACE" inscribed in large capital letters in black ink" over the pages along the top edge; inscribed with the owner's name "Frank S. Peace" in pencil and stamped in blue ink "PRIVATE PROPERTY OF SERGT. MAJOR PEACE 4TH BATTERY C.F.A. 107 King St. East Hamilton, Ontario" and "SUPPLIED BY T.C. ELLIOTT, DRILL HALL, MONTREAL" on the first page; with the title "PREFACE" on page three having been altered to read "FRANK S. PEACE", with the "R" and "F" blacked out. It includes six parts containing thirty-one sections: Part I - Individual Training on Foot (General Principles and Annual Course of Training; Squad Drills and Intervals; Physical Training, with Apparatus; Squad Drill in Single Rank; Sword and Singlestick Practice; Rifle Exercises; Skirmishing), Part II - Equitation (Training the Soldier Mounted - Riding and Horse Management; Training the Horse), Part III - Drill and Evolution - Mounted (Troop Drill; Squadron Drill; Regimental Drill; Brigade Drill; Division Drill), Part IV - Manoeuvre and Detached Duties (General Principles of Cavalry Action; Outposts; Service for Information; Reconnaissance; Scouting), Part V - Miscellaneous Duties (Requisitioning and Foraging; Transport of Cavalry by Railway; Transport of Cavalry by Sea; Crossing Bridges; Field Engineering; Training Horses to Cross Rivers; Duties in Aid of Civil Power), Part VI - Ceremonial Parades (Parade Movements, Inspection Parade, Guards, Escorts, Funerals), along with two Appendices. It is illustrated through the use of multiple line drawings throughout, including two foldout panels of a Lee-Enfield Rifle and a Royal Escorts formation, plus a list other military books published on the pink pages, available for purchase by Officers, NCOs and Men. It contains 380 pages printed on a thin paper stock (376 on white, 4 on pink, not including the two foldout panels), the manual itself with a hardcover incorporating a water-resistant reddish-brown linen finish, measuring 103 mm x 130 mm x 22 mm, exhibiting very light wear along the spine on the cover, the text unaffected.
