A First War 67th Infantry Battalion "Western Scots" Tapestry

Multi-coloured wool embroidery on a thick white cotton base, incorporating fourteen very bright colours, featuring the insignia of the 67th Infantry Battalion "Western Scots". The ribbon banner and perimeter circle in dark red, with the inscriptions "SABAID", "WESTERN SCOTS" and "BRITISH COLUMBIA" in black, the inward pointing arrowheads on either side of the perimeter circle in orange with raised points between the arrowheads in red. Inside the circle illustrates a light blue sky with orange rays emanating from a light red sun, the horizon in mid-tone green, the number "67" in steel blue, touching the sun above and overlaying a light green maple leaf, the veins of the leaf in orange. The maple leaf features a tiger's head in brown, the inside of the mouth in light red, the top of the mouth outlined in dark red, with the teeth, nose and eyes in white, complemented by the pupils of the eyes in pink, the head and maple leaf framed by thistle plants, the leaves of which are in dark green with the six flower heads in light purple. The insignia measures 242 mm in diameter, the white cotton base measuring 320 mm x 335 mm. Quality-made, extremely fine. Footnote: The Battalion was raised and mobilized at Victoria, British Columbia under the authority of G.O. 103A, August 15, 1915. The Battalion sailed April 21, 1916 with a strength of 34 officers and 1,045 other ranks under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel L. Ross. The Battalion was re-designated the 67th Pioneer Battalion and later, the 4th Pioneer Battalion. It was disbanded on September 15, 1920.
