Army Book containing 16 pages printed in black ink on a thick brown paper stock, with a label pasted in place on the Instructions page (page 1) and inscribed "This book is not to be taken as a proof of the identity of the holder.". Page 2 contains personal information regarding Hill in handwritten inscriptions in black ink, the facing page 3 with notes documenting his vaccination and inoculation information, along with a signature stamped in red ink above the stamp in blue ink "Capt. & Adjt., No. 3 Training Depot Station R.A.F.". Also, there are additional pages pasted in place on pages 4 and 5, both of which are printed in black ink on a white paper stock. His promotion to Second Lieutenant on January 28, 1918 is stated on page 6. The book is housed in an ultramarine blue cloth-based, moisture-resistant folder with fold-over flap and snap closure, inscribed in black ink "OFFICER'S RECORD OF SERVICES, ARMY BOOK 439", with two black and white photographs pasted in place on the inside front cover (one of a series of tents, the other of an officer with a kane and leaning against a wall), the folder measuring 110 mm (w) x 140 mm (d). The Book is accompanied by a black and white photograph of Hill in his officer's uniform, with the RFC wing on his left breast and both collars bearing RFC collar badges, the photograph under glass, in a wooden frame with wire placed on the reverse for wall hanging, measuring 115 mm (w) x 158 mm (h). Footnote: Charles Edward Hill was born on October 12, 1898, the son of Henry C. Hill of Collingwood, Ontario. He was a resident of Collingwood when he enlisted with the Royal Flying Corps, stating his occupation before the war as that of Student. His agent of note was Cox and Company of Charing Cross, London, England. Hill was vaccinated and inoculated in September 1917, followed four months later by his being named to the rank Second Lieutenant on January 28, 1918.
