Canada, Commonwealth. Town of Oakville Commemorative Bookends, to E.G. Pullen
Each bookend is composed of two wooden blocks with a bronze plate affixed to each, the large plate pinned in place to an upright wedged shaped piece of wood, the small plate pinned in place to a rectangular wooden base, the bookends weighing 760 grams and 812 grams respectively, the large plate bears the Canadian coat-of-arms surrounded by the inscription "DOMINION OF CANADA", with the dates "1939" and "1945" flanking the arms on either side, surmounted by a cluster of maple leaves, the Corporation of the Town of Oakville seal bearing the oak tree insignia and inscribed "TOWN OF OAKVILLE / CORPORATION" below, the seal framed by two branches of oak leaves and inscribed below "PRESENTED BY TOWN OF OAKVILLE IN HONOUR OF", the small plate inscribed "E.G. PULLEN" above a stylized angular design, with Canadian Army service buttons flanking the person's name and placed at either end, the bookends measuring 145 mm (w) x 70 mm (d) x 160 mm (h), green felt pads on bottom of both wooden bases, contact marks on the bronze plates, some of the original pins are missing and have been replaced by nails, scuffing evident of the wooden blocks, very fine.
